San Francisco is sitting 9.5-games back in the NL West and manager Bob Melvin knows his troops can't let that deficit get to double digits by the All-Star break. Merrill struck out 100 and walked 26 on his way to a 7-4 record with a 3.49 ERA. Matched up against the Marlins, Rockies, and Padres in his last three performances, Kelly was crushed for nine earned runs and 19 hits in 16.0 frames. That adds up to a 1-2 record with a lofty 5.06 ERA. There are several reliable team trends that support this wager. San Francisco has won 67 of its last 121 when coming off a loss and 37 of its last 64 against a right-handed starter. Meanwhile, Arizona has fallen in 33 of its last 62 against the moneyline.
